1st District Magistrate

I am Tom Goddard your 1st District Magistrate for Meade County and I humbly ask for your vote November 3rd.

My wonderful wife and I along with 3 children moved to Meade County over 30 years ago and call this home after retiring here from the US Army. We enjoy the peace and the quiet along with the rolling hills of Meade County. My children have all married and have left for employment and then returned finding work in the local area because this is home for us. I want to keep the country atmosphere in the county, but we also need responsible employment, so our youth don’t have to find employment in neighboring counties or states. We need responsible planning and affordable living areas along with responsible employment opportunities.

We have seen many changes the last 4 years in Meade County with one of the biggest being the acceptance of Otter Creek Park into the Meade County Parks system. Otter Creek has always been in Meade County, but it now belongs to the County. Come enjoy the trails, sites, and nature. Several groups have already started restoration of the trails and sites.

We have a new County Animal Shelter which should be opening this fall replacing the current shelter which is inadequate to house the current animal population of our county and is also unable to provide a healthy environment for our pets and the staff.

Our current Road Department garage is also being replaced and should be completed by the spring 2027. This allows us to use the current area that the animal shelter and the road department are located to be available for the scheduled judicial center to be built, with the hopeful funding cycle in the 2030 State Budget session. Our county has been blessed with 2 crumb rubber grants giving us 4 miles of resurfaced highways under state grants.

Our recycle Center is one of the largest in the Commonwealth and continues to grow providing a vital service to the County and surrounding counties. Thanks to the responsible, dedicated supervisor and the dedicated crew/employees this facility comes very close to paying for itself with little cost to the county taxpayers for the service.

We continue to search for funding for the county water system with the goal of providing water to all county residents. With funding coming from both State and Federal legislators, grants that were awarded the Water Company is updating the infrastructure and also additional sources of water for our growing community, we are currently assisting in the funding of a water depot in the Battletown area to help service the residents in that area.

We have a road program that is now more affordable for people that live on private roads to be able to get their road accepted into the County Road System. There have been several roads accepted into the system because of this program.

We have voted to lower property tax rates in the county through increased industry, responsible spending, accountability in the budget and cutting wasteful spending. We have a balanced budget because of the courts diligent efforts to spend with a frugal pen.

Our Seniors Center with assistance from both City and County offices has been updated and is ADA compliant, come check it out at many of the events listed, like Friday night dances with local bands open to everyone.

I will continue to work with local, state, federal officials for opportunities to bring funding, employment resources so that we can better equip our needed services such as 911, EMS, transportation etc.

Communication is the key to success and to understanding the needs of the people, I will continue to support the traveling Fiscal Court meetings at each district along with periodic Townhall meetings to keep the people informed and better access to the operations of the Fiscal Court.
