President Trump Has Kept His Promise To Appoint Hundreds of “Qualified” Judges to the Federal Judiciary

October 30th, 2020

During the 2016 Presidential Election, then-candidate Donald Trump campaigned on appointing judges that uphold the law; he has “since kept that promise” by appointing hundreds of judges to the lower courts and appointing two Supreme Court Justices.

President Trump has appointed second-most federal judges through June 1 of a President’s fourth year.

A President has not seen the rapid confirmation of this many judges since Jimmy Carter’s Presidency.

Vox: “The average Trump appointee has far more impressive resume than any past president’s nominees.”

40% of Trump’s appellate nominees have clerked for a Supreme Court Justice, and about 80% clerked on a federal court of appeals, which is less than a quarter of Obama’s nominees who clerked for the Supreme Court, and less than half with federal appellate clerkship.

The average age of President Trump’s circuit court appointees is less than 50 years old, which is about ten years younger than President Obama’s circuit nominees.

President Trump’s latest nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, has been widely praised as a brilliant legal scholar.

NBC News’ Pete Williams: Wide agreement that Judge Barrett is “qualified” for the Supreme Court.

Pamela J. Roberts, a lawyer and member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Commit-tee on the Federal Judiciary, testified that “Judge Barrett meets the highest standards.”

Former dean of the Boston College Law School and president of the Catholic University of America, John Garvey: “I would be astonished if anyone were to oppose her nomination on the basis of character or intellect.”

Jonathan Adler, a professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, called Judge Barrett “remarkable,” “in terms of intellectual caliber, she is as impressive as they come.”

Support continues to roll in as the majority of Americans continue to voice their support for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, stating that she has “an intellect like no other.”

Morning Consult: “51% of voters now back Barrett’s confirmation, most support ever for a Trump Supreme Court Nomi-nee.”

Democrat support for Judge Barrett has continued to increase since President Trump announced her nomination.

Politico: “Polls show that the confirmation of Judge Amy Co-ney Barrett to the Supreme Court is generally popular with voters they are already facing.”
